Hey guys sorry for the lack of update and here's wishing you all XIN NIAN KUAI LE! Just want to let you all know that the opening for NYC is on the 31st of January and dinner will be served so you don't have to worry about food on that night. Also, the 3rd edition of Youth Worship will resume on the third week of February (February 15) and please invite your friends to come both Youth Worship and Newton Youth Club! On the other hand, I hope that all of you are still consistent in your walk with God and remember, keep the faith, as always.

The New Beginning

Hey guys,

this is the first post of the year 2009 and first up, I would like to wish happy new year to one and all! 2008 has been a good year for us, regardless of whatever setbacks that we've faced. There were good and bad times but in the end, we'll grow out of it into stronger people. Look at Refresh 3.0. For me, even though I missed the majority of the camp, it was definitely better than 1.0 and 2.0. I saw people bonding and worship together with one heart and one voice. Although the strings kind of loosened after the camp, the youth service resumed back to a weekly basis from September but yes, it's officially dead. Actually, it was re-transformed into Youth Worship which will debut on Sunday of the 2nd week of January. For those who've been for the pre-service on the last Sunday of the year 2008, Pastor Vincent prompted a question on how we want to worship God in this new sanctuary. Whether it's through dancing, jumping or singing your hearts out, let the focus be onto God for worship doesn't only happen on Sunday mornings or the weekends. It can happen anytime, anywhere. Remember the two focus: Youth Worship and Newton Youth Club. Both are platforms and opportunities to bring in new and lost friends so guys and girls, let's seize the day. As for 2008, whatever's in the past, stay in the past. We've passed 2008 and now we have 2009 to deal with. But the whole ordeal is just to leave it to God with faithful hearts as we seek to glorify His name. To conclude this post, I would like to quote Stephen Christian as what he said kind of make sense for a new beginning:

"We will all come to the point in our life where we have to admit that we feel defeated, that something has conquered us. We must change, not because we want to, but because we desperately have to. We can not take life in its current suffocating state, even to admit such desperation shows that we are feeling deserted, wandering the barren desert, a shell of our former selves. It is only up from here, it is impossible to sink any lower into ourselves or our circumstances. But we can be salvaged, a deliverance. No vice can stand, no fix can take. The thorn in the side can be removed, but you have to be willing to admit and surrender. Surrender your habits, your lifestyle, your past, your present, and your future. This is your new surrender. Christmas Week

Hey guys,

please remember that today on the 24th of December, which is a Christmas Eve, the church will be holding a Christmas celebration starting at 7 pm.

Then on the 26th of December, which is a Boxing Day, the youths will continue to paint some areas of the church and yes, we need your help! Feel free to contact your respective small group leaders or the heads-in-charge: Angela and Zhong Li.

On this coming Sunday, which is the last Sunday of the year 2008, we will be having a preview/prayer meeting for the Youth Worship straight after the 10 am morning worship services. Please attend as we pray and visualize about the future and leave it all to God.

As for whatever that has happened from the start of December till now, you can see how time has passed by so quickly. Whether it's good or bad, let's just give thanks to God for all that had happened as He let it happened for a purpose, and that's to mould us into stronger people and to humble us. As you can see, Christmas is only a 1 or 2 days away. Then next week, it's a start of a brand new year. Whatever Christmas wishes or New Year's resolution that you have wished for or set, tell yourself this: 2009, here I come, with the strength, power and faith in God, to ride through the storms and soar like eagle's wings.

As ironic and corny this can be, it can surely be a good thing after all.

The venue will be Worship Hall 401 and if you do not know your respective roles, you will find out on the day itself, for it is the cause of actualization. As you know, we had a game of soccer on Saturday. People actually turned up, quite a handful of them. I supposed for those who went, we all had fun, despite the rain after an hour or so. Thank God for the weather though, as it wasn't too sunny or rainy before tears came falling from the skies. As for visual evidences, our dear Willie filmed the whole process. Dear guys and girls,

just a reminder, this coming Saturday, there will be NO Saturday Service. In fact, there will no longer be anymore Saturday Services in the years to come. May the new Sunday Youth Worship be a platform to bless others, including the ones around the Newton Community who have yet to believe in Christ. So may I kindly inform the rest to inform others to TELL the people that Saturday Service is officially DEAD.

Time of Death: 6:45 pm, Singapore/Kuala Lumpur Time.
Date of Death: 16 November 2008.

May it be a death to rejoice and remember, as we look back at the times where we worshipped God at the Bridge and Hall 401. Still, the worship must live on, and it will continue forever and ever.

As for this Saturday....

Remember, it's futsal on a field for the guys, girls included. Look at that video. The attacking team lowered his pants to prevent the goalkeeper from the opposing team to see the ball under their feet. How smart is that? And we can use it to apply onto our game this weekend. So guys, REMEMBER! 22 November, meet the people at 3:45 pm at Outram MRT Station and at 4:00 pm, we are gonna kick some butts.

As for the girls, I guess you can join in if you want to, and there are fun-filled games like Captains' Ball and Frisbee for you to enjoy. But yes, after all the fun and sweat, we can all go to Chinatown and chill.

AND ALSO..........

Student Leaders, our Annual General Meeting will be held this Saturday at 10 am. So kindly remember to wake up early and attend that meeting, because we will all be there by 10:19 am.

Guys, remember when we got trashed by the Chinese? Well, it's time again.........

FOR PAYBACK.

Yes, we are having a Futsal game again and this time, it's at the field next to Outram MRT! The date will be on 22 November and the time has still yet to be revised. I don't know if there will be youth service on that faithful day but yes, gear up for the challenge and this might lead to a step up for a proper NLC football club. Who knows, we might even play in the S-League in the near future!

For more details. come to Youth Service this week. If you're gear up for this, GAME ON. And oh yes, take this as an opportunity to invite your friends too. You know, we do need backup after all, so yes.

Saturday Recap

I guess there is nothing much to recap, with the exception that a Talent-Time rehearsal will soon be scheduled in the last few weeks of November. As for the coming month, we are going to have a new series on Habits: Revisit. That means remembering the acronyms, which is Vincent's forte but was matched by Sheng En last week. So yes, remember, Habits: Revisit, coming your way. It will be good as we embark on a mission to the setup of the Youth Worship on Sunday morning.

Hey guys, I hope you are all enjoying your Mondays. For now, let's recap on two things that happened during the past week:

1. The Batam Ride

As many of you were aware, our dear pastor Vincent was invited by a church based in Batam to preach at their youth camp. Jeremy was his companion and they arrived at the camp site in the morning. Vincent preached for two sessions and the food was spicy but delicious. Overall, we learned alot. We learned about passion and commitment. Mostly, we learned about dynamic-ism. 2. Saturday Service (041008)

Then came Saturday and from what I heard, Vincent mentioned about dis-encouragement in his prayer. Well maybe some of you were disheartened and your balls or morale dropped due to what he said. Perhaps we should let it be a source of encouragement for us, as we should always see things positively. Let's use this as a statement to examine ourselves and pray about it, for we should always focus when it comes to worshipping God. Let us all express ourselves freely!

Hey guys, hope Monday blues ain't killing you! Anyways, for those who attended the 27 September edition of Saturday Service, you might have known that we are walking towards a direction revolving big plans and needs. Here's a recap of what we prayed about:

- The Youth Worship Movement (Starting in January, if everything goes well according to plan)
- Youth Center (Split to 3 different sections: Games Corner, Study Corner, Praying Corner)
- Exams (O's or A's, it's all about education)
- The Accident (Thank God for His grace that we are still standing on firm ground)
- Small Group (The continuous growth in numbers, relationships and spiritual faith)
- The Invitation (An offer for Vincent to preach to the youths in Batam)

Six things to pray for, six things to keep a lookout for. Don't worry, there is no other 6s. Anyways, pray continously about this 6 items as we walk in this direction which only God knows what will happen, for He has it all planned out and let's leave it all to Him. Activity: Old Folks Home Visitation ala Evangelism (30 August 2008)

Recap: About 10 + youths participated in this mini outreach event and songs that catered to old folks were prepared. It was a fruitful experience and Nizam was playing the e-drums, malay style. Even though the weather was bad, thank God for the rain.

WE THE KIO SAI KINGS!

Activity: Food Fair 2008 (7 September 2008)

Recap: The youths have to barbecue satay sticks and otahs at the back of the yard. It was a helluva hot and sweaty ride. In the end, those who gained most had stomachaches and toilet breaks. Overall, it was a good sport.

Also, we moved our youth service to worship hall 401. Let this be a start to something new and big, for God has big plans for us. Enjoy the photos, and Blogger is a pain in the butt at times.

As I work through disappointment I draw on Grace. Grace never really makes sense.

It is given to those I think should not deserve it.

It enables me to love those I don't want to.

It causes me to reflect on my own neediness, and the Greatness of God.

It allows me to give comfort, even when I am in distress.

It allows me to heal, even when I am wounded.

It gives me hope and from that hope springs joy.

I came across this on Dr Conner's blog and it made me think and reflect on what it means to us. "By the grace of God", we always say. Do we really mean it? Do we think that we deserve it? Perhaps it's not meant to be. But truly, by the grace of the highest one, he gave it to us, regardless of what we've done. Besides grace, he also gave us mercy. I believe we have seen many scenerios, whether it's through self or someone else, that you see people begging for mercy when one is in deep trouble. God has given us many things that we don't deserve. Truly God, your grace is enough. To end this off, here's a song taken off from Switchfoot's "The Economy Of Mercy":

We have done LCC, some have done Old Folks' work. You might not want to do it again, but what about a few more shots?

INDEED! This coming Saturday, 30 August, we are going to tour around the homes of Toa Payoh and sing some sings to satisfy their entertainment needs!

Most of all, we are going to share the gospel with them. With Pastor Vincent leading this once in a lifetime session, don't be afraid, we can do it and lend a helping hand!

Small group leaders, please confirm the attendances with your members and meet at church at 11 AM to practice singing the songs. So let's prepare to embark on an old man's journey.

Yes indeed, starting from the month of September, we will held our weekly Saturday Service at hall 401. The time will still be 5 pm sharply and hope to see you there! Chapter I

A new era, a new chapter.

This is a new beginning of another transition. I wonder how many transitions must we go through to stabilize the youth ministry. Commitments after one another, can broken promises be mended? Perhaps some cannot be, but in church, if we stick by our faiths, it can be. I, too failed to stick by my commitments and many promises followed, but they were not fulfilled. But I believe with a faithful heart, we can do this together. Let this be a start of a revolution and I feel something is changing in the midst of NLYM. Something....that is indescribable. To close this post, I would like to share with you guys a song, perhaps one of the most intense worship song I've ever heard. It is more than worship, it is the passion for God.

What we're about: Providing Real Time Amplification for Worship Events or NLYM events. Mostly we just deal with Saturday Service, managing the setup of the stage, providing and designing the sound settings for each and every Saturday service worship event, as well as running the slideshow, power point presentations and movies. Basically, we provide the technological support in real-time for NLYM services and events.

Goals:
1) To ensure that the Praise ministry can lead the worship without worrying about how they sound.
2) To 'spin" good tracks or recent songs to keep the pre-service environment relaxing and fun!
3) To provide on cue, spot on lyrics on screen so all friends can sing along and learn new songs with ease.

What?
Small groups are essentially a group of friends! They meet to Connect with each other and to Grow together in Christ-likeness as a small family through various activities. We have even built RC planes!

Where?
Anywhere! Small groups often meet in church and a brother’s/sister’s house but all of us have taken it on the road – from East Coast to KAP MacDonald’s.

When?
Small groups happen every Saturday or Sunday afternoon! We are not restricted to these timings though … sightings include on public holidays, school holidays and normal weekdays.

Who?
You! Anyone can join a small group.

How?
Just give a call or drop a line to our friendly operators … I mean, Youth Workers.

Set-up for needs, guided by God. Our role is to provide for the logistics of Saturday Service, and to assist fellow ministries in their needs. Stuff like decor to catering are the name of the game. In this ministry, we do not pride ourselves in our actions, but to bring out God's love for His people through our service, for God has provided us with more than we deserve.

Most importantly, we are workers of God, and we cannot work on our own strength. As His Children, we seek His guidance and support in our aim in providing for others. Let us grow in our work with the Lord, and give thanks to Our Father through our service.

It's more than the advertisements of NLYM. It's about reaching out to the "de-churched" and "un-churched".

By the means of internet, videos, visual prints and many other forms of publicity for many different events (Camps, bridge events, etc.), we aim to reach out to young people all over Singapore, and if possible, tourists to Newton Life Church’s Youth ministry!

If you are bursting with creative juices and want to be used honorably by the Master, Come join us in serving God in this ministry. I can guarantee you, your brains will overflow, with pleasure.

In a small country named Singapore, there lays a church, Newton Life Church, and among their midst, a youth ministry. The code-name is:

NLYM

Yes! This is our youth ministry and we welcome all youths, whether you are range from 13 to 23 to join us and have a fun and meaningful experience!

Mission:

Theology --- Doxology --- Transformation

We seek to engage youths (ALTHOUGH WE FAILED TO DO SO, at times) and help them develop Christ-likeness through activities based on these Biblical principles:

- Reach out to the community
- Connect with them,
- Honor God in all we do,
- Grow more Christ-like and
- Serve God and His people.

Stuff we have done so far include:

- Retreat Camps (Yearly event; see Refresh for more information)
- National Day steamboat (on hiatus)
- Fund-raising activities such as Carwash and setting up a videogames arcade (on hiatus)
- Rollerblading together at East Coast Park (on hiatus)

- Random outings

We would like to include more of the other activities inside and yes, share with us your opinions on what we can do!

Today, I had the privillege and the grace of witnessing what a small group of 4 people from 3 small groups could do. On their own, they moved 1/4 of the main sanctuary's pews!. And all they did was to move EACH of those pews forwards by less than 1/2 a metre... without grudge or complain they worked....

This group of 4 people packed and organised 1248 pieces of soft toys too! God's amazing people. A Pri5, Sec 1 , Sec 2 and one J1 DID ALL that..... Just IMAGINe... how much more the whole of the Newton Life Youth Ministry Fellowship can do TOGETHER ?

i am writing here to appeal and sound out a "call-to-arms" message to every one of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Now is the time to act, if you have been wandering or waiting for a time to be a part of this coming weekend's Carnival. Below's a list of tasks we have to accomplish together, (and things that are going on this week for the carnival) with the relevant dates and times of when we're gonna do it..... Please sms me, R.A.Y. @ 98793340 on when you are coming in to help out.

TUES-21st Nov:
3.30pm -5.00pm. Sorting of approx. 2000 soft toys
5.00pm- 7.00pm: Moving of the main sanctuary pews

WED-22nd Nov:
8.30a.m.-11.30a.m.: Distributing approx. 2000 flyers.
12pm: ARRIVAL of the Arcade and Carnival Machines!
2pm: a)Wrapping of the Ezone Tokens.
b)Making of the boxes used to collect coupons.

THURS-23rd Nov:
6.30pm: EZONE SET UP COMPLETE!

FRI-24th Nov:
5.00pm-7.00pm: EZONE ARCADE TRIAL RUN FOR NLYM YOUTHS!

Dear Parents,
Firstly, I want to thank God for your love for His Church and your contribution to our Youth Ministry through prayers and actions. I also thank God for your unconditional love for your child. It has served as a constant reminder for me to love your child unconditionally.

It is my honor to write our first Youth Ministry newsletter to all parents. The purpose of this letter is to establish communication between Parents and Youth workers. I personally think that the Youth Ministry is not run by youth workers or pastors alone. I regard you as part of the Youth Work in NLC. Compared to any youth worker who spends approximately three hours per week with your child, you who spend the greatest amount of time with your child will have a better opportunity to make a positive impact in his or her life. Therefore, it is very important for us to keep you informed of God’s work in Youth Ministry. This is to help parents and youth workers work closer in assisting your child’s growth in Christ.

Four sub-ministries in Youth Ministry
Currently, there are four sub-ministries under the Youth Ministry; they are Youth Fellowship, Small Group, Youth Life Development Course and Youth Leadership Training. These four sub-ministries have been designed with the intention of meeting the four basic needs of our youths – their spiritual, intellectual, physical and social needs.

1. Youth Fellowship － Saturday, 5 pm – 7:00 pm
2. Small Group meeting － Meeting time is decided by small-group
3. Youth LDC － Sunday, 8:30 am – 9:30 am
4. Youth Leadership Training － Meet once a month

You can take part
I sincerely invite all parents to take part in our Youth Ministry. I believe we can work together to help your child to grow healthily in Christ so that they will be able to glorify God with their lives.

There are six practical actions that you could do to assist us.
1) Encourage your child to attend, Youth LDC, Youth Fellowship and Small Group meeting.

2) Ask your child about their day in Church. For example, ask questions like: “How’s your day in Church? Fun or boring?”, “Tell me one thing that you have learned about God today” or “Any new friends you have made today?” etc.
You may want to give me their feedback through email at vincentlim@sbc.edu.sg. This can help us evaluate our programs so that we can revise them to better meet our youths’ needs.

3) Encourage your child to join activities organized by Youth Ministry. The recent YOUTH CAMP 2006 from 7th June to 11th June 2006 was a successful camp. Almost all of the youths who went recommitted their lives to Jesus and committed to bring their friends to Christ.

4) Read our Youth Ministry Newsletter so that you know what to pray for NLYM.

5) Pray for our Youth Small Group Leaders, that they will be able to lead the youths according to God’s way. They are Joel Ong, Emily Chia, Choo Sheng En, Joshua Foong, Ray Ho, Jasmine Ngu, Zhou Siming, Ruth Soh, Angela Tay, Grace Wan and Johan Wong.

6) Pray for Brother Vincent Lim and Bible College interns to be able to teach, guide, train and correct the youths according to the Word of God.

Prayer is important! It must be our priority when doing God’s work. Three out of six actions are prayers. I strongly believe that all of God’s work must depend on the power of God in order to become an effective ministry for God’s people. Let us continue to pray for the young people in our Church. Pray that they will become Christians who honor God with their lives.

Thank you for taking your time to read this newsletter. It is my prayer that this newsletter will be able to enhance our communication with you so that we can work together to assist in the growth of your child. In our next newsletter, I will explain how each sub-ministry is able to meet the needs of your child. I look forward to your feedback and to writing to you again.

亲爱的家长，
首先，我为你们对教会的爱与青少年事工的贡献；无论是在祷告或是在你们的实际行动上，都向上帝献上感谢。我也为你们对子女付出那无条件的爱献上感谢。你们无私的爱也时时刻刻提醒我，要以那无条件的爱来爱你们的儿女。

我感到很荣幸，能够写我们青少年事工的第一封简讯。这封简讯是家长和青少年部的同工们沟通的其中一个管道。我深信，青少年事工不仅是同工们和教牧在管理，家长们也是纽顿生命堂青少年事工的一份子。青少年的同工一个星期有三个小时的时间和少年人接触。和青少年同工们相比，家长和儿女们相处的时间是最多的，所以家长也是最能够在儿女的生命中给予他们正确的影响。故此，我必须让您知道有关青少年的事工。这是为了让家长和青少年部的同工们能更紧密的合作，来帮助你们的儿女在主里成长。

青少年部的四项事工
现在，青少年事工分为四大部分；有青年团契，青年小组，青少年的生命塑造课程和青少年领袖的训练。这四项事工能够帮助青少年人达到他们的四个基本的需要—他们的灵命，智能，体能和其他弟兄姐妹团契的需要。

青少年的生命塑造课程 ﹣每逢星期天，上午8.30 至9.30
青少年团契 ﹣每逢星期六，傍晚 5 至 7点
青少年小组 ﹣由小组决定时间
青少年领袖的训练 ﹣每月一次

您可以和我们一起同工
我恳切的邀请所有的家长参与我们青少年的事工。我相信我们可以一起同工，来帮助你们的子女在基督里健康的成长，以他们的生命来荣耀上帝。

您可以以六个实际行动来帮助我们。
1)鼓励子女们参加青少年的生命塑造课程，青少年团契和青少年小组。

2)您可以问子女，他们在教会里做了些什么。例如：“你今天在教会里做了些什么？有趣吗？还是很沉闷？”，“今天在教会学习有关神的一件事”。或者“你今天有没有认识到新的朋友？”等问题。您可以将子女们的意见通过电邮的方式让我们知道。
